The McTimoney technique The McTimoney technique is used for the treatment of back problems and related poor performance. It aligns and balances the animal's musculoskeletal system. A human with back problems would visit a chiropractor, as a McTimoney animal practitioner, I treat animals only. By manipulating misaligned joints throughout the whole body, with special attention to the spine and pelvis, it helps both to restore and maintain health, soundness and performance. McTimoney treatment can help relieve an animal's pain and restore movement after they have suffered in an accident, fall, bump or collision. McTimoney practitioners see animals that have had trauma to their skeletal frame (back) for a number of different reasons, which may not be as obvious as a fall. Twisting and sliding in the field, or pulling back on a headcollar can also cause misalignments to the neck and back. However, problems can also be caused due to issues such as excess weight and, conformation defects in dogs, or, in the case of horses; incorrect foot balance, saddle fitting issues, or rider imbalance. Particular breeds of dogs and working dogs can, in addition, suffer injury due to the nature of their work. For example, greyhounds are at risk of injury from running on a tight track in one direction, whilst agility dogs can be injured if they encounter a particularly difficult obstacle. Long backed and short-legged breeds are also susceptible to injury. A check up treatment can also be beneficial in ensuring an animal has no problems after it has given birth. |
